Fundraising

GBSN is grateful to the Children’s Centres in Gloucestershire who provide us with a percentage of the money it costs each year to run our support groups. The rest we need to raise ourselves.

Since our NHS funding ceased in 2011 we have had to make many cuts to our services and rely almost entirely on our dwindling reserves, kind donations by the families who have benefitted from our support and the tireless fundraising efforts of our volunteers and supporters.

This financial year we need to raise £17,000 to keep our groups running. We desperately need your help to do this.

There are many ways in which you could help us, large and small. Many are totally free, some just ask for your time. Please take a minute to read through how you can help and see if you can get friends and family involved too. Thank you!

Donate
We are always grateful for any donation, large or small, one-off or regular. Here are a few easy ways you can donate.

  • Paypal – send a donation to GBSN using your Paypal account to jo.abbott@gbsn.org.uk
Standing Order – A regular payment really helps us to manage our funds. You can ask your bank to set up a monthly payment to us. Our bank details are: Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters Network, Acc. 18824722, Sort Code: 60-05-16.
  • Text Message – Simply text (for example) ‘GBSN01 £10′ to 70070. You can obviously replace the £10 with whatever amount you would like to donate.
  • Cheque – Send a one-off donation by cheque payable to Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters Network to GBSN head office at 188 Brooklyn Road, Cheltenham, GL51 8EA.
  • At your local group – All our groups have donation tins where we would be delighted to receive your donation. We suggest a voluntary donation of £2 each time you attend one of our groups to help us to cover our costs.
  • Payroll giving – Donate through your company’s payroll giving – if it’s not available, lobby for it to be set up. Perhaps your partner or other family member could also do this?
  • Make a gift donation – Suggest to friends and family that they make a donation on your behalf to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries

Support us when you shop and search
One of the easiest ways to support us financially, without any additional cost to you, is to use our special links when you shop online. When you visit an online merchant using our links to them, the website you use will look the same, the cost of the items will be the same but the site will give us a little donation based on how much you spend with them.

  • Amazon – Visit Amazon via this link – http://amzn.to/HQOgnF. Why not set it as your Amazon bookmark now so that you don’t have to look it up every time? You could also set it on your other devices and your friends’ and family’s computers too!
  • Easy Fundraising – This site is a portal to LOADS of other shopping sites. Visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/invite/1FLPM3/ and sign up for a free account. Next time you shop online, go via Easy Fundraising and by clicking on the links to merchants through their website, GBSN will get a little donation every time you shop. There are literally hundreds of popular online shops on there including Lastminute.com, GroupOn, eBay, John Lewis, Boden… Basically if you’re ever buying something online, please check there first to see if there is a link you can use so that GBSN can benefit at no extra cost to you. Usually the more you spend the more we get so if you book a holiday, flights or buy a car, insurance policy or mobile phone contract through one of their links, GBSN could possibly really benefit!
  • Give while you search the web – Set www.everyclick.com as your home page, register to support GBSN and use it for all your online searches – you can also use it for online shopping and eBay trading and there is no cost to you at all.
  • Give when you switch – Give as You Switch lets you compare a whole range of products and policies including broadband, vehicle insurance and even energy suppliers and not only finds the best policy for you, but sends a donation of up to £17 when you switch provider.

Like and share our news
Spreading the word about our groups and events is one of the easiest (and free) ways you can help us.

  • Like us on Facebook – GBSN’s Facebook page is updated regularly with our latest news and events. It’s the best way of staying current with what we’re up to. Please make sure you like it and share it with your friends
  • Like, comment and share our posts – Our posts are more likely to be seen the more likes, comments and shares they get. If you’re scrolling down your newsfeed and you see a post from us, please just click the ‘like’ button. It takes a fraction of a second but makes a big difference to us. If you’ve got a little more time please add a comment (even if it’s just a smiley face) and even share it with your friends or in a local relevant group you belong to. It really makes a difference to us.
  • Sign up to receive our newsletter – We send out a semi-regular newsletter to all our supporters. It’s a great way to keep up with our news and make sure you don’t miss a chance to support us. You can sign up here.
  • Follow us on Twitter – Did you know we had a Twitter account? It is https://twitter.com/GBSNgroups. Come and follow us!

Give your time
GBSN is run almost entirely by volunteers. We are all busy mums and we donate our free time to run this charity that helped us so much when we had small babies. Whether you have a one-off hour to spare or a few hours a week there are so many things you could do to help us. Here’s some ideas.

  • Get involved in the next fundraising event – GBSN run lots of events throughout the year to raise money. Many of them need volunteers to do all sorts of jobs from selling raffle tickets to stuffing goodie bags to manning stands. Keep an eye out on the website and Facebook page and email us if you can spare some time to help.
  • Organise your own fundraising event! – Lots of our supporters have organised events for us in the past including Boden sales, fun runs, cake sales, pamper nights and sponsored walks. If you have an idea then get in touch and let us know. You can also create an everyclick fundraising page and collect sponsorship online.
  • Come to our events – Just turning up to an event we organise makes all the difference. If you can bring some friends too that’s even better. Check the website and Facebook page regularly to see what’s on.
